ABOUT

I am a Direct Entry Midwife, DEM, which means rather than attending the conventional medical schools to receive my training in midwifery, I have taken significant coursework through Ancient Art Midwifery Institute to get my initial training. I have spent the last ten years observing births as a birth photographer, a Doula, and as an apprentice to a home birth midwife. I am verified midwife with the state of Mississippi. At this point in my training I am able attend low risk, normal pregnancies. I have seen and can handle many complications as they come up. I am trained to know when a labor is no longer low risk and can advise when a transfer may be necessary.
I have a strong belief in families having the right to the kind of birth they want and in the comfort and privacy of their home. I believe that those who choose home birth should have competent professionals able to attend their births. That competency should include training, knowledge and experience. A provider should have the tools needed to handle various situations that require assistance, but have the trust and patience to stand back and let a healthy, normal birth proceed without excessive intervention.
